1825 Civil Code Bicentennial Lecture at Fall Judges Conference

The commemoration of the bicentennial of the 1825 Louisiana Civil Code officially started on October 8, 2024 with a lecture by Professor Olivier Moréteau, Director of Louisiana State University’s Center of Civil Law Studies, at the 2024 Fall Judges Conference. The lecture, entitled “The Dynamics of Codification in Louisiana: Is the Civil Code Soft Law?,” covered the Code’s development and its relationship to judicial decisions and statutory law.
