A Chat with the Chief Justice: Painting a Picture of Professionalism
On September 16, 2026, the Supreme Court of Louisiana Historical Society co-sponsored a professionalism CLE with the Law Library of Louisiana in the Louisiana Supreme Court’s courtroom. Historical Society Board Chair E. Phelps Gay sat down with Chief Justice John L. Weimer to discuss professionalism standards and concepts found in the Supreme Court’s Code of Professionalism in the Courts, the LSBA Code of Professionalism, Louisiana Code of Civil Procedure articles, Louisiana jurisprudence, and Supreme Court Rules. The program was very well-attended. E. Phelps Gay also discussed the importance of balance, humor, and mental escape in the stressful life of a lawyer or judge with the Chief. Chief Justice Weimer manages stress through painting. Dozens of the Chief Justice’s paintings were displayed in the courtroom for the enjoyment and appreciation of the attendees.
