E. Phelps Gay

E. Phelps Gay, a graduate of Princeton University and Tulane University School of Law, has been a partner of Christovich & Kearney, LLP since 1985.  His practice areas include energy and maritime law, products liability and defense of legal malpractice cases and ethical complaints.  Active in professional organizations, Mr. Gay served as president of the Louisiana State Bar Association in 2000-2001, focusing on reform of ethical rules and increasing lawyer professionalism.  He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, the New Orleans Bar Association, the Louisiana Bar Foundation, the Louisiana Judicial College and the Pro Bono Project.  A long- time member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel, Phelps received that organization’s Hecker Award in 2004, for his article, “Professionalism in Depositions: The Sound of Silence.”
